Honors: The City of Roanoke has received 7 All-America City Awards (1952, 1978, 1981, 1988, 1996, 2012, 2017). In June 2019, Roanoke received the National Civic League’s first-ever All-America City Hall of Fame award for our Feed and Read program.
Since 2012, we have gotten numerous Pacesetter Honors from the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, including:
- 2014: School Readiness
- 2015: All-Around Pacesetter Honors for improving outcomes in all 4 solution areas
- 2016: Summer Learning, Overall Grade-Level Reading, and scaling and sustaining work in parent engagement/improving health determinants of early learning, cross-sector collaboration, and prioritizing children living in public housing
- 2017 Pacesetter Honors for:
- Demonstrating promise and/or progress in alignment and/or collaboration for impact on early school success
- Demonstrating measurable progress and/or promising trend lines
- Roanoke also won 2018 Bright Spot and Communications Expo recognition, and four leaders were added to CGLR Council of Champions
- 2018 Pacesetter Honors for:
- Achieving bigger, better outcomes
- Making game-changing impacts
- Building the community learning platform
