Many families in Roanoke travel to and from work, school, and appointments on public transportation. Busy families have trouble finding the time to read with their children, and commuting time is a chance for reading together. In June 2015, we began placing children’s books on the three Valley Metro bus lines with the highest family ridership. These buses now function as a mobile library, allowing children to read with their families and neighbors while they travel!
Since June 2015, over 3,000 books have been shared on Valley Metro buses! This includes hundreds of books donated through a Roanoke College book drive.
